Adolescent Dog Training in Brighton, Hove & East Sussex – 1-to-1 Teen Reset Programme

When good pups go rogue

Between 6 and 18 months, most dogs hit adolescence—and suddenly that recall you worked on disappears, distractions become irresistible, and boundaries get tested daily. This is completely normal and what’s needed is a reset. Most training stops after puppyhood, but adolescence can be exactly when your dog needs support most.

This 5-session positive reinforcement training programme rebuilds the foundations that adolescence has shaken loose. We work on impulse control under real-world distractions, reliable recall, and the confidence to make good choices independently.

You'll come away with a dog who's genuinely reliable in everyday situations—and the understanding to navigate the rest of adolescence without losing your mind.

How 1-to-1 Teen Dog Training Works

How it Works

Five weekly in-person sessions, tailored to where your dog actually is—not where they "should" be. Training happens in your home and local area, working through the specific distractions and situations that seem to make your dog forget everything the’ve ever learned!

Why 1-to-1?

Adolescence looks different for every dog. A Staffie losing impulse control looks different to a Whippet’s recall falling apart. Private sessions mean I can help you understand what's driving the behaviour and rebuild skills in breed-appropriate ways that work with your dog's energy and instincts.

I have a young Staffie with sky-high energy, and I was completely overwhelmed before we started training. These sessions made such a difference. Everything was explained in a simple, practical way, and I finally understood how to manage her energy and build better behaviour at home and on walks

Your free survival guide for the terrible teens

Between 6 and 18 months, your dog's brain is essentially rewiring - which is why skills you thought were nailed suddenly aren't. This guide covers the challenges most adolescent dogs hit: why recall falls apart when it matters, how to prevent lead pulling from becoming a habit, what to do when your dog tests every boundary you've set, and how to manage that teenage energy without accidentally making things worse.

It's temporary. It's normal. And with the right approach, you'll both get through it.

  • Adolescence. It's a normal developmental stage where hormones, independence, and confidence all hit at once. The training didn't fail—your dog's brain is just temporarily prioritizing other things. With the right support, you can rebuild reliability.

  • No problem. We'll assess where they are and build from there. Every trainer works differently, so there might be some adjusting, but that's completely normal.

  • This is the most common adolescent issue and exactly what we'll work on. Knowing commands in your kitchen and performing them with a squirrel 10 feet away are completely different skills. We'll bridge that gap.

  • You'll have unlimited WhatsApp support throughout. Adolescent dogs can have good days and terrible days—quick guidance when things go sideways is often more useful than waiting until the next session.

  • Most dogs are still in adolescence at this point, so you'll get recommendations for continuing training independently. The follow-up call a month later helps troubleshoot any new challenges. If you need ongoing support after that, we can discuss options.
